Surveillance footage showed the suspect wearing a gas mask and black clothing, throwing smoke grenades at the Taipei Main metro station before attacking people at the mall. Hospitals reported that 3 people died from the stabbings, while 9 others were injured, with one in serious condition.
Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-An stated that one victim, a 57-year-old man, tried to stop the attacker at the metro station but was fatally stabbed. A woman, another victim, described feeling struck rather than stabbed and witnessed others lying on the ground, bleeding.
Local reports revealed that the suspect had failed to report for military reserve training in November 2024, and was under investigation for evading compulsory military service.
