Ekniti calls urgent meeting to tackle ‘grey money’ in military lottery quota

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 03, 2025

Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas will convene a meeting within two days to address grey money in military lottery quotas suspected of being used for money laundering.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas said on Monday that he will convene a meeting within the next one or two days to discuss measures to curb “grey money” circulating in the lottery quota allocated to the military, which is believed to have been exploited for money-laundering purposes.

Ekniti said the subcommittee overseeing the issue had just been appointed, and that representatives from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO), the Bank of Thailand (BOT), and other relevant agencies will be invited for a full discussion.

On financial oversight and anti-scam measures, he said the Finance Ministry aims to build a comprehensive monitoring system to identify gaps in Thailand’s financial network that enable illicit funds to flow through.

Regarding lottery quota management, Ekniti said the secretariat team would begin examining possible legal and regulatory loopholes across relevant agencies. He emphasised that the government intends to adopt international standards in resolving the issue.
