The crash site was in grassland beside a factory.

Firefighters had to drag hoses into the area to spray water on flames burning around the engine of a small, two-seat Guimbal Cabri G2 helicopter. It took about 30 minutes to bring the fire under control.

An initial inspection found that no one was trapped inside the aircraft.

It was later learned that the pilot and passenger, two people in total, were safe and had sustained only minor injuries.

Pol Col Chakkrit Srirojanakul, superintendent of Mueang Samut Prakan Police Station, said the station had received a report of the crash at about 8.30am.

The helicopter was being flown by the owner of a factory in the area, with a captain also travelling as a passenger. There were two people on board.

The pair were travelling from the factory to another factory in Chonburi province.

However, after the aircraft had lifted only about 10 metres, a technical fault occurred, prompting the pilot to try to keep the helicopter steady and land it about 30 metres from the take-off point.

As the aircraft touched the ground, its rotor struck cogon grass in the area, causing a fire on the aircraft.

Both occupants managed to escape safely without serious injuries, with only small amounts of mud and algae on their bodies.

Initial questioning indicated that the cause was insufficient engine power, leading the pilot to decide to make an emergency landing.

The helicopter was a new aircraft, having been in use for only two years, and had valid documents for flight permission as required by law.
